Galveston Option

If you do not meet the requirements for Spend the Night with the Corps, but do meet the minimum requirements to attend Texas A&M and are at least in the third quarter of your high school class, we would like to introduce you to our TAMU-Galveston option.

Texas A&M Galveston (TAMUG) is the only branch campus of the Texas A&M College Station campus. Texas A&M Galveston offers students the option of moving to the Texas A&M College Station campus after one year through a 'Change of Curriculum'. The current criterion for this program entails students completing two full semesters (30 credit hours) at Texas A&M Galveston with a minimum of 2.5 GPA. Admissions information for TAMUG can be found at: www.tamug.edu/admrc. or by contacting Cheryl Grefenstette-Moon, Director of Admissions and Records (409) 740-4418 or mailto:cgrefens@tamug.tamu.edu.

With few exceptions, this is the best opportunity for many students who truly desire to attend Texas A&M-College Station and be members of the Corps of Cadets who may be concerned with being admitted to the University. The Galveston Option helps a number of students to be able to attend Texas A&M-College Station and be 'Fish" in the Corps of Cadets one year later. To have your application considered by Texas A&M-Galveston, simply follow the admissions criteria listed on their website (http://www.tamug.edu/admrc/Admissions/General%20Admission.htm). Although submitting your application to TAMU-Galveston will cost $35.00 it will be well worth the expenditure should you truly want to increase your opportunity to be a member of the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M-College Station. If you have already applied to Texas A&M University-College Station and you would like your application forwarded to TAMU-Galveston, contact (in writing) the Office of Admissions and Records at TAMU College Station. Your forwarding request may be faxed in to (979) 458-1808.

Ensure you mention in the TAMUG application that you intend to move to College Station following the year at Galveston and be part of the main campus Corps of Cadets – this will be favorably considered during the TAMUG admissions process.

Based upon a recently signed agreement between TAMUG and the Corps of Cadets, while you are spending your year at Galveston you will have the option of belonging to a ‘special unit’ of the TAMUG Corps of Cadets. Their Corps, although focused on maritime studies and duties, will provide up to 50 prospective students desiring to move to the main campus and join our Corps following the TAMUG year a special unit where you will wear a modified TAMUG uniform (yearly cost of about $500.00), and will enjoy the following advantages:

  • Priority on-campus housing
  • Daily uniform wear
  • Mandatory study hours with required room inspections
  • Leadership training

Please note there is no requirement to take maritime courses (as the main body of the TAMUG Corps must) as part of this special unit. Belonging to the unit will provide excellent preparation (and study habits) prior to your move to the main campus Corps of Cadets. Should you be accepted to TAMU-Galveston and then find out later that you have been accepted to TAMU-College Station, you may simply decline the invitation to attend TAMU-Galveston.

<< Yes, I would strongly consider the Galveston option if not selected to attend Texas A&M and want to learn more by attending a Spend the Night with the Corps session.
