Cadet Life

The Best of Both Worlds

Cadet Life...Join the FunThe Corps of Cadets teaches leadership within the framework of a military organization. The Corps has its own distinctive uniform, dedicated residence halls and dining facility, the Sam Houston Sanders Corps of Cadets Center – a museum-like meeting hall – and its own unique organizations. Students who join the Corps enjoy the best of both worlds--living in a military academy environment while attending classes with the rest of their fellow students at a contemporary major university.

The Daily Corps Routine

Cadet commissioned and non-commissioned officers direct the daily Corps routine, under supervision of the Commandant of Cadets and his staff. The Corps lives together in cadet units, holds daily formations, marches to meals, conducts marching drills and physical training, and participates in other military-style activities.

A cadet's daily routine is anything but routine! The Corps provides its members with a wide array of opportunities and activities. Depending on your class year, you could fill your day with many different activities. Freshmen, better known as "fish," are the heartbeat of the Corps of Cadets. When not in class, Corps freshmen spend their days "learning the ways of the Corps" to better prepare themselves to be the leaders of tomorrow. Sophomores in the Corps are charged with using their previous years experience to make their freshmen class all that they can be. It is the Sophomore's job to be "the perfect cadet" in the eyes of every freshmen. Corps Juniors and Seniors must use their experience to lead the organization. Corps upperclassmen make up all of the staffs and command all outfits and special units.

All members of the Corps have the opportunity to participate in Corps Special Units. Some of these special units, such as the Ross Volunteer Company, are restricted to Junior and Seniors. Special Units give cadets the opportunity to diversify their Corps experience and further represent Texas A&M University.
