Campus Involvement
Members of the Corps of Cadets learn much about leadership, honor, and time management within the confines of the Corps structure. However, cadets are also encouraged to go outside the Corps to learn, serve and participate in other facets of University life.
Texas A&M University is home to over 700 recognized student organizations and cadets play important roles in many of them.
Texas A&M University also has an extensive student government. Students vote for student councils for each class, a student senate representing students in the various colleges, and a student body president representing all students at the University. Cadets use the skills they obtain in the Corps to represent all students on student councils and the senate. Several student body presidents in past years have come from the Corps of Cadets.
Although nationally known for its spirit, Texas A&M University has no cheerleaders. That is because it has no school cheers. Instead, there are a number of school yells employed by the 12th Man to support the team on the field or court. The yells are led by three seniors and two juniors elected by the student body to be Yell Leaders. Over the years, most Yell Leaders have come from the Corps of Cadets.
